Questa edizione è dedicata al tema Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes, con le opere di Patrizia Bonardi, Daniela di Maro e Timothy Pickerill.

Se nel 2012 si è voluto proporre un campione dei mutevoli linguaggi del video, questa edizione si sofferma piuttosto sui contenuti, traendo lo spunto dagli epocali cambiamenti storici e sociali che hanno investito il mondo occidentale come quello orientale.
La crisi economica e di valori che ha colpito il vecchio continente, la rivoluzionaria “primavera araba” che ha cambiato volti e destini del Medio Oriente e Nord Africa, hanno infatti segnato in maniera drammatica le vite di molte persone, che hanno subito la perdita di tradizionali punti fermi nella costruzione della propria identità, come il lavoro, l’inserimeno in una società regolata dal potere, la suddivisione per classi o per sesso. Questo ha comportato smarrimenti, sia sul piano individuale, che di gruppo, con lo smembramento di famiglie alla ricerca di migliori condizioni di vita e forse anche di se stessi.
Videospin2013 raccoglie tre lavori che più o meno direttamente indagano questi cambiamenti a livello geografico, indicando la modificazione, se non la crisi, degli assetti umani globali (nel lavoro di Daniela Di Maro DDM), la conseguente solitudine dovuta ad una non precisata rottura degli affetti nella moltitudine della folla (testimoniata dalla cesura del video di Timothy Rolling Pickerill) e la possibilità di un ritorno, di un incontro con il sé nella ritrovata armonia della natura, descritta da Patrizia Bonardi.
Si tratta di tre opere recenti, una finanche dell’anno in corso, che esprimono anche tre differenti approcci tecnici ed estetici, a testimonianza della varietà poetica del video d’arte, in grado di racchiudere attitudini e ricerche autonome, assolutamente differenti per incisività visiva e sonora, ma alla fine complementari nel descrivere, racchiudere ed aprire ai sensi un grumo di interrogazioni attualissime ed urgenti: le possiamo sentire, alternativamente, nel disperato dolore di un abbandono personale, maturato per chissà quali ragioni tra le nostre premure e paure quotidiane, in ronzii di masse capaci di farsi tuono o, alla fine, tra i mille silenzi di alberi , che forse indicano una strada, una nuova speranza all’orizzonte.

"La consistenza di noi stessi fugge nella follia del quotidiano. Ansiosamente ci aggiriamo in cerca di identità.
L'immobilità dell'albero ci riporta in noi. Scaviamo per mettere radici, per trovare un giaciglio fatto di memoria, di coriandoli bianchi, frammenti di inconsistenza. Nel video l'immobilità degli alberi si confronta con l'evanescenza della figura che si moltiplica in tanti sè caotici e identicamente inconsistenti. La geometria perfetta del pioppeto sembra fare da gabbia alla tortuosità del percorso umano”.

“Migrations racconta il delicato momento della partenza degli uccelli verso luoghi della Terra a loro più favorevoli. Compiendo, nel cielo, spettacolari evoluzioni dettate da molteplici fattori biologici, gli uccelli, come gli uomini, vanno alla ricerca delle condizioni ideali per “generare e rigenerarsi”. Nonostante la conflittuale presenza dell’uomo che spesso destabilizza il loro orientamento, gli uccelli hanno l’atavica capacità di prefigurarsi, nella mente, delle vere e proprie mappe geografiche del territorio. I gruppi esaminati e in movimento, sono composti da migliaia di volatili che si trasformano e si stagliano come piccoli punti grigi sul fondo bianco del cielo. Ancora una volta, le immagini rarefatte e dotate di pochi elementi di riferimento, creano un’ambiguità percettiva che trasforma queste creature in altri organismi microscopici e in continuo movimento”.

If in 2012 a sample of the several video languages was on offer, this edition wants rather to focus on contents, drawing inspiration from the massive historical and social changes that have lately affected the Western and Eastern world. The crisis in economy and values that have struck the Old Continent, the revolutionary "Arab Spring" that has changed the face and destiny of the Middle East and North Africa, have been a dramatic change in many people’s lives, who have suffered the loss of traditional milestones in the construction of identity (such as having a job, a belonging to an ordered society governed by power or divided into class or sexes for centuries).
This has resulted in major bewildering and confusion, both individually and within groups, often bringing to families’ break-up in the search of better living conditions and perhaps of their very themselves.
Videospin2013 collects three artworks that more or less directly investigate these changes in terms of geography and society, indicating the changes, if not the crisis, of mankind on a global level, (in the work by Daniela Di Maro DDM), the consequent loneliness due to an unspecified rupture of affections within the multitude of the crowd (as evidenced by the “cesura” in the video by Rolling Timothy Pickerill) and the chance for a return, an encounter with the true core found in the harmony of nature, described by Patrizia Bonardi.
These are recent works, one being edited just this year, and also express three different technical and aesthetic approaches: they reflect the videoart multifaced poetical offerings, which can be comprised of indipendent researches that are absolutely different one other for visual and audio impact, but ultimately complementary in describing and bringing to our senses a clump of contemporary and urgent questions: we can alternatively discover them in the individual’s desperate pain for being abandoned within the ordinary hurries and fears of surrounding moltitudes, in the hum of masses that can become thunder or eventually among the thousand silences of trees that would be possibly indicating a road, a new hope on the horizon.

The immobility of trees brings us back to ourselves. We dig to put down roots, to find a resting place made of memories, of white confetti, fragments of insubstantiality.

Migrations tells the delicate moment of the departure of the birds to places on Earth at their most favorable.
Performing, in the sky, spectacular developments dictated by many biological factors, the birds, as well as men go in search of the ideal conditions for « generate and regenerate. » Despite the presence of man conflict that often destabilizes their orientation, the birds have the atavistic ability to prefigure, in my mind, the real geographical maps of the area. The groups examined and moving, are composed of thousands of birds that turn and stand out like small gray dots on the white background of the sky. Once again, the rarefied images and have a few points of reference, create perceptual ambiguity that transforms these creatures in other microscopic organisms and on the move.
